Finding Balance

Finding Balance

There’s a part of me that thrives in frenetic energy. Looming deadlines, projects I’m not sure I can pull off, social situations loaded with potential awkwardness. I’ve learned strategies that let me navigate these moments successfully, even productively.

But there’s another part of me that craves complete stillness. The full disconnect. The unplugging. That requires suspending your care for achievement and connection, which has its own dangers. Get too comfortable with that feeling and you risk derailing any chance at progress or growth.

Like most things, the trick is finding balance between both modes. Learning to read the signs for when you need to shift gears from one to the other.

It’s not easy navigating between them, but learning to recognize which mode you need is essential. I catch myself falling into the tar pits of apathy and despair sometimes, and throwing myself into a project that demands my focus is often what helps me shake out of it. Other times, I realize I’ve been running on fumes and need to step back completely.

The skill isn’t just in switching modes, but in trusting yourself to know when each one serves you.
