Accidentally Becoming a Music Writer

Accidentally Becoming a Music Writer

I never set out to be a music journalist. But here I am, with another story out today for Miami New Times, a profile on Bandalos Chinos.

It’s funny how it all unfolded. Writing about music wasn’t part of some grand plan. Yet when I look back, I can see how movies like Almost Famous quietly shaped me, how much that story of chasing bands and telling their stories stuck in my head.

Now, because of the pieces I’ve already written, I find myself on press lists and in inboxes. Reps reach out, I check out a band I’ve never heard of, and suddenly I’m down the rabbit hole. Listening to their albums on repeat, and then, just days later, sitting across from them on a video meeting asking questions.

It’s a strange, wonderful loop: discovering new music, then immediately getting the chance to connect with the people making it. A reminder that sometimes the paths you don’t map out are the ones that take you exactly where you’re meant to go.
