Building My Own Universe

Building My Own Universe

I’ve been re-reading Derek Sivers’ Anything You Want, so a string of these posts are inspired by his writing, including this one:
Running a business is like building a little universe. You get to decide the rules. You choose what matters. You create the environment you want to exist in.

That framing changed how I think about Yo Miami. For years, I tried to fit into other people’s universes: clients, bosses, even family expectations. But what if the real value of building something isn’t just the output, but the chance to create your own utopia?

When I host an event, launch a product, or connect an artist with a client, I’m shaping the rules of that small world. Do we prioritize relationships over transactions? Do we center community instead of hierarchy? Do we make the space playful instead of sterile? Those choices add up to the feel of the universe.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating something that feels true to you, and discovering that when you love the world you’ve built, others often will too.
