Dig A Little Deeper
The creative industries love their clichés. “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” “Exposure is good for you.” “Fake it till you make it.”
I’ve seen how these phrases can become traps. They flatten nuance, gloss over struggle, and make creatives feel like failures if their experience doesn’t match the slogan.
The truth is more complicated. Doing what you love is still work. Exposure doesn’t pay bills. And faking it too long can burn you out before you’ve had a chance to build something real.
What we need aren’t slogans, but honest conversations. Not easy lines that fit on posters, but stories that show the messy, contradictory truth of building a creative life.
